What fostering actually involves

A clear picture of fostering before you offer: time, space, support and saying goodbye.

A temporary home

A foster home looks after an animal until it is adopted. Some placements last a few days; kittens or animals recovering from surgery may need weeks.

The organization stays responsible

The shelter or rescue usually covers veterinary care, decides adoptions, and supports its fosters. Ask what supplies and help they provide before you say yes.

Honest about your home

Tell them about other pets, children, your schedule and how long you can commit. A good match for your household is better for the animal than a rushed yes.

General guidance, not veterinary or legal advice. Local rules and programs differ.
